Check this out: You’re Seeing Less Women in Film Than You Think

Geena Davis! God I love her.

This short clip from an interview with her in the link below is fabulous. Did you know that she started an organisation to research about gender in media because there were no good statistics available? Unfortunately what the researchers found wasn’t good news for women (not much of a surprise).

“In “Gender Bias Without Borders,” the Geena Davis Institute for Gender in Media conducted research in 11 countries and found that only 23% of films feature a female protagonist. This might be because 79% of filmmakers are male. When a woman directs a film, there is a 6.8% increase in the number of females onscreen.” (extracted from article linked below)
