Icon Person: Camille Lepage

Unfortunately I am learning about Camille Lepage’s work through her obituary. Camille was confirmed dead on May 13th by the French government, passing away at the very young age of 26. She was a French photojournalist working in war-torn areas of Africa, most recently in the Central African Republic.

We should honor and respect the courageous human beings who place themselves in danger in order for others to benefit from the true on-the-ground information.

Camille once said, “I can’t accept that people’s tragedies are silenced simply because no one can make money out of them,” she said. “I decided to do it myself, and bring some light to them no matter what.”

Your legacy will not be forgotten, Camille. Rest in peace.

RIP Camille Lepage, French photojournalist killed in Central African Republic.
