with eyes open wide
The strength of a determined woman is implacable. Eman Mohammed is a young photojournalist in Gaza. She is the only woman photojournalist in her city because of the deep cultural traditions against women working in this field.
Whatever your views are on theIsraeli-Palestinian conflict are irrelevant. The fact here is that a woman is following her passion and going against the grain amidst harassment and strong pressure to conform culturally.
The work that she has produced certainly has a political slant, but the broader view is more important here. Only few are willing to stay in a battle zone and record the story of the actual on-the-ground action and sentiments. I love hearing the reporting from a woman, who typically has a different focus than male colleagues.
