with eyes open wide
I hate to think of languages being lost, especially in this day and age when we have so much digital help to preserve them.
In order to “save” a language, education for children is critical. Children soak up languages much easier than adults. Although, if they don’t continue learning and using the language, it will be mostly forgotten. 😦
I think it takes a determined group of adults who cherish their heritage and/or the language to actively speak the language daily amongst themselves and with their children. It’s not enough to simply teach it in a school setting. It must become an everyday habit.
