Check this out: Women’s Rights in Malawi

This woman is Joyce Banda. She is Malawian. She is a business woman with an elementary teaching degree. She has 5 children. She is also Malawi’s president.

Malawi struggles, as many African countries do, with terrible human rights violations, especially against women. Malawi is one of the least-developed countries in the world and has multiple ethnic groups, which causes many problems in unity and authority.

2014 is an election year for Malawi. Each presidential term is 5 years and a person is allowed two presidential terms.

As a woman, Mrs. Banda is in a powerful position to be able to help the women in her country. The biggest struggles are against teenage pregnancy, sexual abuse and HIV rate. As the title of the article below states, can Mrs. Banda stop sexual violence in Malawi and encourage other African nations to do the same? We are all hoping that she is elected again in order to continue exerting her influence for women.
