Icon Person: Ned O’Gorman

I love this obituary of Ned O’Gorman, someone I had never heard of until today.

Ned was a dreamer and do-er. I admire the action that he took to help the underprivileged children of New York City.

He had no specific background to open a school, but his heart told him it was the right thing to do. Given an opportunity to take over a storefront in Harlem, he turned it into a children’s library, of all things!

The rest is history as the school grew and has now given thousands of children a free worthwhile education which they may not have otherwise had the opportunity to receive.

But what’s more important is this:

“He hugged every child at the beginning of the day. If one failed to appear, he sent a car for him. When a reporter for The News asked what was so special about him, a girl named Willow replied, “Love.””

We need more people like Ned O’Gorman in this world. RIP Mr. O’Gorman.
